Hole 1 - The Lodge

The Lodge on the left of the first fairway was formerly the gateway to the Beaumanor Estate.  The opening hole is a fairly straight par 4, with out of bounds on your left and thick rough and trees on your right.  The fairway narrows beyond about 200 yards and the ball runs towards the left.  The green has a steep bank on the right hand side and the out of bounds wall continues to the left.

Pro tip:  a long iron from the tee marker avoids trouble on the right and leaves a shot of about 150 yards to the green. The percentage second shot is to land the ball 20 yards short and allow it to run onto the green.
